Service charges are costs you may have to pay towards extra services and benefits we provide that aren't covered by your rent. Not everyone pays service charges, but if you do they'll be set out in your tenancy / lease agreement.
Service charges go towards things like:
- Keeping your communal areas well maintained and looking good
- Making sure that lifts and door entry systems are working properly if your building has them
- Regularly testing fire alarms and other safety systems and equipment to keep you safe in your home
- Buildings insurance
- And much more
