We’d like to congratulate our very own Dylan Holmes for being awarded Apprentice of the Year for Construction and Building services by Weymouth College!

Dylan, Apprentice Plumber at Magna, began his apprenticeship in 2021 once he’d finished sixth form, attending Weymouth College one day a week and spending the rest of his time at Magna.

Dylan’s tutor at the College, Anthony Cowburn, nominated him for the award when he heard about how dedicated he had been to his role at Magna. Dylan’s co-workers have talked of his aptitude to go above and beyond his daily responsibilities, taking on additional tasks willingly and with enthusiasm.

As well as his performance with Magna, Dylan has been a keen ambassador for apprenticeships at Weymouth College. To promote apprenticeships and showcase the benefits of them to others, Dylan has been speaking to his fellow students about his experience at Magna and how the programme has helped him develop valuable and transferrable skills for his future career.

Dylan said:

“I knew I wanted to do something practical, so I looked at a variety of trades and was interested in plumbing and heating the most. I like the mix of learning and the practical work I do out on site - college allows me to learn the theory and I can practice the hands-on work while I’m with Magna. I’ve really enjoyed working with my team and would love to be able to secure a permanent position with them once I finish my training at the end of next year."

Andy King, Gas Heating Supervisor at Magna said:

“I work with Dylan on a daily basis and could see from the moment he walked in for his interview that he was going to be a great fit, not only for the team, but for the profession.
“He may only be halfway through his apprenticeship, but to be awarded with this accolade is recognition of the work he puts in both at college and out on site, as well as the development of his skills and confidence. He’s always found ways to combat any challenges and is very proactive and keen to learn. It’s clear he’ll continue to succeed in the profession, and I hope to be able to work with him moving forward.”

We’re proud of the great work that Dylan has done, and to be able to provide apprenticeship opportunities across Magna to help young people start their careers.
