This week is Learning at Work Week and we’re sharing stories from colleagues who have done extra learning alongside their roles at Magna.
Daniel Edwards is a Trade Team Manager at Magna and looks after our kitchen and bathroom team. He recently took part in a site management safety training scheme to gain a new qualification.
Daniel said:
“I was told by my line manager that it would be a useful course to take. It has been really helpful in my role.
“I only started my manager role in February last year, having worked "on the tools” and fitting kitchens myself for the last 30 years. This course helped me to grow in my role as a manager. It also helped to teach me what to look out for and assess when carrying out the health and safety side of working on site.”
The training scheme covered a broad range of site management safety, including risk assessments, high risk activities, how sites affect the environment, as well as a deeper dive on the legal steps behind running a site.
Daniel continued:
“I had a choice of learning from home one day a week for five weeks, or sitting a week-long course in a classroom at Bridgwater College. I chose to do it in the classroom and did the course alongside another Trade Team Manager at Magna.
“I’m pleased I chose to do to it this way as the course involved a lot of practical elements. The lecturer that led the course was excellent in his delivery. He was very approachable which I think makes all the difference.
“It was quite a lot to take on alongside my job. My role is quite varied, and the team is always busy. However, I’d certainly recommend doing the course as it’s a great qualification to have. It would be a great help to any role involving site management.”
We’re proud to be supporting nearly 500 colleagues in continuing their learning and development journey alongside their roles.
