Have you ever heard that apprenticeships are only for those that don’t make the grade or that you must go to college every week? That couldn’t be further from the truth!

Join us for some myth-busting with Mike Upton, Magna’s Learning Experience Designer, for National Apprenticeship Week.

Apprenticeships are for anyone over the age of 16, not just school leavers, and can be a great way to start your career, return to work after a career break, or develop and try something new in your current role as well.

Mike has delivered training courses and worked closely with apprenticeship schemes for 20 years and has a wealth of experience when it comes to supporting our apprentices at #TeamMagna.

He said:

“Apprenticeships for me are a perfect marriage of learning and earning and have evolved so much in my 20-year experience.
“But throughout their evolution, one thing for me remained constant and that was delivering learning and seeing learners’ evidence this in a workplace environment helping them not only with their learning but embed fundamental skills and behaviours that we take for granted.”

Apprenticeships are packed full of learning and can provide a great academic challenge, putting them alongside the same pathways as A-Levels and can be completed from a Level 2 up to Degree level as well.

There’s also a large range of providers that can offer things like remote training depending on what you want to pursue, meaning that you won’t have to attend classes at a college every week.

Mike continued:

“The evolution of remote working is a huge positive for learners, providers and employers and allows opportunities for certain apprenticeships to be accessible regardless of UK postcode.
“Within my role at Magna, the decision on which training provider we use will always be down to the learning undertaking the programme. It’s their learning and as such they should have the option on who best meets their learning needs first and foremost.”

Apprenticeships aren’t just for people joining an organisation for the first time either. They’re also a fantastic way to support existing colleagues to grow and learn new skills which is something we support at Magna, with four colleagues who completed apprenticeship programmes as part of their development last year.

Mike finished by saying:

“Apprenticeships play a crucial role here at Magna to provide the opportunity to learn and work and help ensure we’re an organisation where talented and ambitious people enjoy rewarding and fulfilling careers in an inspirational environment.”

We’re proud to have passionate people like Mike and robust apprenticeship pathways at Magna to help people learn and grow with us, whether they’re joining us for the first time or are looking to develop on their existing role.
