The government recently announced they are considering extending the Right to Buy scheme (currently in place for council tenants and preserved for ex-council tenants) to housing association tenants.
Currently, as a housing association, we’re able to offer the Right to Acquire and the Preserved Right to Buy to some of our customers, depending on certain criteria being met. The proposed change could mean that the option for our customers to buy their home could be extended further.
The government haven’t provided any details on how they expect the process to work, what the rules are likely to be or when it might be put in place. We are therefore unable to provide any advice at this stage.
