Today is Women's Equality Day, a day to celebrate the achievements and contributions of women across all fields and sectors, no matter what their role is.
We’re proud to have a diverse and talented workforce that includes many inspiring and dedicated women who work hard to support our customers and colleagues. 60% of our executive team are women, with women making up about 42% of our total workforce.
We caught up with Joanne Martin, Director of Customer Operations and one of the many amazing women that work at Magna, to ask her a few questions about her role and what work we’re doing around inclusion.
Question: What’s your role at Magna?
"My role is to ensure that we provide excellent services, both now and into the future, to our customers, that we listen to their feedback and involve them in shaping our services, and that we maintain and improve our homes and neighbourhoods to create great homes together.
"I love what I do and I'm passionate about making a positive difference in people's lives."
Question: Why is inclusion and equality so important?
“Inclusion and equality are essential for creating a fair and respectful culture where everyone can thrive and achieve their potential. They’re also important for ensure that we reflect and understand the diversity of our customers and communities, and that we deliver services that are inclusive and accessible, that meet their needs and aspirations.
“As a leader in the business, I’m fully committed to championing an inclusive workplace."
Question: Do you think Magna is an inclusive and equal place to work?
“Definitely! We have a strong commitment to inclusion and equality at all levels of the organisation. I always described myself as not only a Director of Customer Operations but also a mum, wife, and me.
“We all have skills and experiences that makes us the unique people we are, and we have a diverse and supportive workforce that values different perspectives and experiences. We have a range of policies and initiatives that promote inclusion and equality at Magna, such as flexible working and learning and development opportunities.”
Question: What work has Magna been doing around inclusion?
“We’ve been doing a lot of work around inclusion, both internally and externally. We’ve recently updated our inclusion policy and strategy, which set out our vision, objectives, and actions.
“We’ve taken time to understand from colleagues and customers about their experiences and gained valuable insights into how our colleagues and customers feel about inclusion and how we can improve.”
