Earlier this year, we worked with Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service (DWFRS) to hold a fire training exercise at one of our blocks of flats in Dorchester. Watch the video below for a quick summary of what the exercise was and what we learned.

This was an opportunity to test how the response to a real emergency would go, and the exercise focused on tackling a mock fire on the fourth floor and performing a search and rescue to find and evacuate several mock customers, played by our colleagues in the building safety team.

The fire and rescue services were also tasked with rescuing a dummy in a wheelchair, which was a great opportunity to test the personal emergency evacuation plans that we have in place for ensuring our vulnerable customers can be rescued in the event of a fire.

Chloe Gallagher, FRA Compliance Manager at Magna, said:

"Magna hold a Primary Authority Partnership with DWFRS, therefore we work very closely with them. Not only did the training exercise provide a valuable lesson for us and show our commitment to safety to our customers, it also gave DWFRS the opportunity to practice in a high-rise residential block, and we were able to provide the unique opportunity for them to charge their hoses. This meant they were carrying heavy hoses charged with water through the building whilst in full kit, making the exercise as real as possible.
“One of the pillars of our Better Futures strategy is being #BetterTogether and I truly believe working in partnership with DWFRS supports this aim and builds upon our #AlwaysSafe value. We are extremely grateful for the hard work DWFRS carry out, helping keep our customers and our communities safe.”

Keeping our customers safe is our number one priority, and working in partnership with local services is so important in making sure that our fire safety processes are robust and work as intended.
